Tsunami Of Short Films At Sundance

Written by: FFT Webmaster | January 18th, 2012

This year’s Short Film program at the Sundance Film Festival consists of 65 short films, culled from a record 7,675 submissions, up 16% over submissions for the 2011 Festival. Trevor Groth, Director of Programming for the Sundance Film Festival, explained the increase as a result of new moviemaking technologies. “As technology allows greater access to short films as well as filmmaking tools, an increasing number of people are turning to short filmmaking as a form of expression and an opportunity to explore creative freedom”, Groth expressed. “The fact that we received 1,200 more submissions in this category than last year speaks to that. The Short Film program is presented by Yahoo!. A special selection of short films from the Festival will be featured on Yahoo! Screen, where an audience of millions will be able to vote for their favorite. The winning filmmaker will be presented with the Yahoo! Audience Award at the end of the Festival.
