After five years in Tribeca, the annual Romanian Film Festival in New York is moving uptown to the Film Society of Lincoln Center. This year’s edition, to run from November 30 to December 6, offers a tantalizing review of the best films that have emerged from the former Communist state, which has seen a startling renaissance of film talent in the past decade. The Festival is presenting the American or US Premieres of several new titles, including MORGEN, the country’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. In addition, the event will feature career retrospectives of two leading Romanian film autuers: director/writer/actor Liviu Ciulei, whose career began under the repressive Communist period and who died last month at the age of 88, and Radu Muntean, one of the most prolific filmmakers on the current Romanian New Wave scene.
