AMC/Sundance Channel Global, which represents both the American cable networks American Movie Classics and the Sundance Channel, has signed a series of deals with subsidies of John Malone’s cable giant Liberty Global that will add a further 1.4 million homes to AMC/Sundance’s European footprint. The carriage agreements include new deals with Film 1 in the Netherlands, Hungary’s UPC, Focus Sat in Romania and an expanded deal with Belgian broadband group Telenet. The announcement was made at the European Cable Congress, an industry event currently running in Brussels, Belgium. AMC/Sundance will bring such hit AMC series as MAD MEN and THE WALKING DEAD to the television networks, as well as a library of independent features and documentaries.
A local language version of the Sundance Channel launched in Poland on January 1st on IPTV, following on the heels of a Portuguese version, which bowed on Portugal’s top pay TV platform ZON Multimedia. Among Sundance’s many new carriage deals include ones in France, where Virgin plans to add the network to its Virgin Box; Belgium, where the Sundance Channel is now available on country’s leading IPTV service, Belgacom TV; and Taiwan, where it will go out on local provider Veetime. “These new distribution partnerships reflect the strong appetite for high quality, globally renowned entertainment from audiences and content distributors alike,” said Bruce Tuchman, president of AMC/Sundance Channel Global.
