The sole American film in the Cannes International Critics Week, a sidebar program of the Festival programmed by international film critics, won the Grand Prix prize at the event’s 50th anniversary. THE SHELTER, the sophomore effort of writer/director Jeff Nichols (SHOTGUN STORIES) stars Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain (the female lead in Terrence Malick’s THE TREE OF LIFE) in a psychological thriller about an Ohio family man who slowly starts to succumb to mental illness via apocalyptic nightmares and intense paranoia. The film also won the SACD Prize for best screenplay. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and is being released this fall by Sony Pictures Classics.
