Brainstorm Media To Distribute Solondz Film

Written by: FFT Webmaster | June 5th, 2012

Brainstorm Media is entering into theatrical distribution with the newest film from award-winning cult director Todd Solondz (WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE). Brainstorm will release the film, a dysfunctional family drama that stars Justin Bartha (THE HANGOVER), Selma Blair (CRUEL INTENTIONS), Mia Farrow (ROSEMARY’S BABY), Christopher Walken (THE DEER HUNTER) and newcomer Jordan Gelber (BOARDWALK EMPIRE), on June 8 in New York, to be followed by a national rollout. The film tells the story of a thirty-something year-old guy with arrested development who falls for a thirty-something year-old girl with the same problem. When he tries to move out of his junior high school bedroom in his parent’s Long Island home, tragedy (and dark comedy) ensues. DARK HORSE will be distributed in association with industry veteran Ted Hope’s Double Hope Films, who also produced the film with his associate Derrick Tseng. The film, which had its international premiere at the 2011 Venice Film Festival, has taken an unusually long time to find theatrical distribution, despite its filmmaker’s reputation. It represents an unusual collaboration between distributor and producer and is bucking the trend for day-and-date releases on multiple platforms. “Like that old 35 mm we once all loved, DARK HORSE will be playing only in theatres this summer!” Hope enthused in a prepared statement. “The Brainstorm team has constructed a way for the filmmakers and our investors to be true partners in this venture. How often do distributors really want the producers to make money?” To view a trailer and get more information on the film, visit: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1690455/
