Kino Lorber Buys Israel/Palestine Documentary

Kino Lorber, the New York-based specialty distributor has acquired all US rights to the acclaimed documentary 5 BROKEN CAMERAS, a daring chronicle of resistance in the West Bank which marks an unprecedented collaboration between Palestinian director Emad Burnat and Israeli filmmaker Guy Davidi. Filmed from the perspective of a Palestinian farm laborer (co-director Emad Burnat), the film was shot using five different video cameras – all of them destroyed in the process of documenting Emad’s family’s life and non-violent Palestinian resistance to the Israeli occupation. With hundreds of hours of video footage covering a period of over six years, the directors have turned “five broken cameras” into a symbolic and unexpectedly lyrical exploration of the personal and collective struggles of both sides in the West Bank conflict. The film had its world premiere in November at IDFA: The International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam, where it received a Special Jury and an Audience Award. The film made its North American debut at last week’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won its co-directors the World Cinema Documentary Directing Award. Kino Lorber (www.kinolorber.com) plans to release the film to the theatrical, non-theatrical and educational markets in late summer, followed by television, home video and digital release.
