Sidney Poitier To Receive Film Society Honors

The Film Society of Lincoln Center, one of New York’s most prized film institutions, has announced that its 2011 recipient of The Chaplin Award is film icon Sidney Poitier. On May 2 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Mr. Poitier will receive the 38th Chaplin Award for his work as a film actor, director, producer and social activist. Mr. Poitier will be honored by a who’s who of talents including Quentin Tarantino, Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Sir Ben Kingsley, Mary Louise Parker and many others yet announced. The evening will feature film and television clips commemorating Poitier’s groundbreaking career as an actor, director, humanitarian, diplomat, and philanthropist.
