W.C. Fields Retrospective Starts This Weekend At Film Forum

Written by: FFT Webmaster | April 22nd, 2011

A 28-movie festival celebrating legendary comedian W.C. Fields opens this weekend at the New York arthouse Film Forum. From April 22 to May 3, the series will present over 15 of the gifted comedian’s most seminal works from the late silent era through the 1940s. The series begins today with a classic double bill of the 1933 comic gem IT’S A GIFT,  which this year was selected to the National Film Registry, and MAN ON THE FLYING TRAPEZE. Also screening on the opening program will be the uncensored version of Fields’ infamous short THE DENTIST. We could all use a laugh and this comic curmudgeon is just what the doctor ordered.
