Since New York is the center of the entertainment industry, it makes sense that a good number of titles at the Tribeca Film Festival have to do with this subject. Music is the focus of such films as DON’T STOP BELIEVING: EVERYMAN’S JOURNEY, a fascinating look at the Filipino-born replacement singer for iconic rock band Journey; THE ZEN OF BENNETT, a portrait of singer Tony Bennett with the smoothest pipes in the business; BAM 150, a look behind at the scenes at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, as it celebrates its 150th anniversary; EL GUSTO, a portrait of chaabi music, the heart and soul of Algerian culture which is a mix of European and Arabic influences; FAME HIGH, a documentary which covers the drama, competition and triumph among a group of struggling students at the Los Angeles High School For The Arts; QUEEN: DAYS OF OUR LIVES, a rollicking look at the career of the UK rock band legends; THE RUSSIAN WINTER, the story of Grammy-nominated musician John Forte who played with the group The Fugees before drugs plagued him and brought him to prison; and SEARCHING FOR SUGARMAN, the Sundance hit about a previously unknown 1970s rock icon who never was.
