New Shingle FilmDistrict’s First Cannes

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 16th, 2011

The two principals of a new distribution shingle, Peter Schlessel and Bob Berney, are no strangers to Cannes. However, this is the first year that they are attending as the co-presidents of new distribution company FilmDistrict. The company was quick out of the gate in acquiring the Gerard Butler soccer comedy PLAYING THE FIELD. Now reports are surfacing that they have acquired domestic rights to ARABIAN NIGHTS, the Inferno Entertainment project that has Chuck Russell directing. The film is an ambitious $60 million action that is still awaiting casting. The company’s first two releases, INSIDIOUS and SOUL SURFER, both scored (if not sensationally) at the box office.
